Exciting New Ranging Hardware Release Coming Soon

We are happy to announce the third generation of our ranging system will be available January 2017.  This release will include new hardware and a website update with a number of new demo videos showing off the features of our system.

The hardware release will consist of three different types of hardware: the RFRAnchor, RFRBadge, and RFRButton. Each type serves a specific purpose for limitless situations. Our system provides indoor ranging solutions for both commercial and consumer applications.

RF Ranging, Inc. received NSF SBIR Phase I grant

We are pleased to announce that RF Ranging, Inc. received a SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation to help fund the research of our RF ranging technology. The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) will investigate ways to handle multi-path issues in Real Time Location Systems (RTLS). We use phase information and “packetized” range measurements from hopping between different frequencies to avoid interference from the environment, all this with low-cost, common off-the-shelf components! This grant provides us with the resources to make our ranging system even more accurate and reliable than before! For more information, see the Greina Technologies NSF SBIR Award.

I have been constantly asked two questions related to the new hardware:

  1. Is our system Ultra Wide Band based?
  2. Can you post a demo of the system in action?

To quickly answer both of these questions:

  1. No, our system operates on the 801.15.4 2.4Ghz ISM Band.
  2. This demo show a RFRAnchor finding the position of a RFRBadge.

Announcing Availability of Sub-meter Accuracy RF Ranging System with Millimeter Tracking Capability from Greina Technologies

RFRB0413-KIT-3-box-smallGreina Technologies, a leader and innovator in RF ranging technologies, announces today the availability of its RF Ranging Base Evaluation Kit.

The RF Ranging Base Evaluation Kit (RFRB Eval Kit) demonstrates Greina Technologies’ new RF Ranging system providing industry leading high absolute ranging accuracy (as low as a few centimeters) as well as new device tracking capabilities with millimeter resolution. Unlike chirp FM ranging methods, the RFRB ranging technology uses small bandwidth and rides on standard IEEE 802.15.4 messages in the 2.4 GHz ISM band.

Different from any other RF ranging and localization system, the RFRB measures not only the absolute distances to a device within a few centimeters, it allows to track them at a millimeter resolution at an update rate of more than 70 Hz. This opens up a whole new area where one can apply RF localization, like terrestrial and aerial robotics, where rapid and high-precision tracking is a necessity for control.

The RFRB Eval Kit comes in three different sizes, containing two (small), three (medium), or four (large) devices. They can be used to evaluate 1D (small), 2D (medium), or even 3D (large) localization scenarios.
